BIRD OF PREY PROGRAM
Raptors (birds of prey) such as eagles, hawks, falcons and owls are federally protected. It is against the law to injure, harm, or possess these birds in any way. However, they regularly fall victim to gun shot wounds, automobiles, cell towers, insecticide poisoning, to name just a few of the hazards birds are confronted with on a daily basis.
The purpose of the Bird of Prey program is to educate and raise awareness of the majestic birds all around us, the positive role they play in keeping the environment in balance, and why it is important to protect these birds.
The Bird of Prey program is available to groups, schools, or organizations of any size and age.
Our presentation includes these species of birds:
OWLS - VULTURE - HAWKS
The birds are handled "on the glove" and participants get a close up look at the birds.
Natural history and statistics as well as a personal history on each bird are presented. Bio-facts and other “hands on” items are included in each presentation. Programs usually last 50 minutes. Any other time considerations can be discussed.
Sterilized great horned owl pellets are also available for dissecting.
The education birds used in the Bird of Prey program rely solely on donations for support. Donations go directly to cover the costs for food, veterinary bills, housing, and general supplies. Donations are tax deductible.
